Twilight Workshop with Caro Webster

author of "Small Fry Outdoor"
"Inspiration through Nature's Simplicity"

Saturday 30th April 2011
5.30pm - 7.30pm

How often do we encourage our children to daydream? Do nothing? Enjoy the simple pleasures being outside? Author, communicator and mother of 2, Caro Webster believes that doing so is an integral part of a child's education and development. By using simply play, imagination and the "prop box" that is Mother Nature, she believes we can keep kids connected to the wonder of outdoors. In this hands-on workshop, Caro will give us her tips on helping children find the extraordinary in the ordinary, the magic in the mundane and the enchantment in the everyday. Interestingly, she'll also discuss the role social media can play in educating parents and carers on the importance of getting outside and unstructured free-fall play.
All linking so well to the Early Years Learning Framework.

Mudpies, Trees, Fairy Huts and Mosaics - a day of nature, play, art, music and inspiration.
Rusty Keeler and Annemarie Zwack visit The Point Preschool Saturday 4th December 2010

Rusty is an artist/designer with a unique sensitivity to childhood and the author of Natural Playscapes - Creating outdoor environments for the soul www.earthplay.net/index.html. Rusty has a deep belief in beauty and the importance of play in the development of children and his designs reflect his sincere desire to create a more beautiful world in which to grow and explore.

Annemaire Zwack is a visual artist delighting in mosaics and illustrator of Colour Me Earth. Annemarie works extensively in schools on mosaic, mural painting, sculpting with clay and bookmaking projects.www.ZwackArt.blogspot.com

Rusty will be presenting "Mud Pies, Willow Huts, and Play: The World of Natural Playscapes"

"The natural playscape movement has begun. By working together with our communities we can bring the wonder of nature to children and create beautiful environments for discovery and play. This workshop will get you to think about your outdoor spaces in a new way and inspire you to dream new possibilities for your children. We will look at creative play spaces from around the world as examples and talk about how to bring the all good stuff to children: trees, grass, sand, water, hills, mud, gardens, sound elements, pathways, living willow huts, and much more. Together we will brainstorm the unique resources and materials of your community and begin dreaming the playscape possibilities!"

Annemarie will be presenting "Fairy Huts and Mosaics"

"Using the natural materials of your local environment, participants will build small scale, one-of-a-kind, organic structures that engage the imagination, challenge the maker to be resourceful with materials, and to see the natural world with new eyes. Using tree bark, berries, leaves, nut shells, shells, grasses, sticks, flowers, moss, pebbels, & perhaps a little clay, we will each create tiny worlds for the imagination to inhabit. Join in the fun and experience the transformative practice of seeing with the imagination as you engage in the play possibilities of the natural world."

The medium of mosaics is one of artist Annemarie Zwack's favorites (!) because of the opportunity it affords groups of people to each have a creative voice that harmonizes as a whole. Zwack will present images of her mosaic work with communities and introduce some of the technical basics so that you too can get inspired and get started on a mosaic project in your community. Zwack will share her knowledge of materials and assist individuals in planning their mosaics.

Peter Morgan will be releasing his new children's CD "Take a Step Outside your Door" and performing songs on the day. Peter is a singer and musician who loves performing to all audiences of all ages www.petermorganmusic.com
